UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP (UMG) PROMOTES MALCOLM SWATTON TO GLOBAL HEAD OF HUMAN RESOURCES
SANTA MONICA, CA, December 10, 2010 – Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, has promoted Malcolm Swatton to the newly-created position of Global Head of Human Resources. The announcement was made today by the company’s Co-Chief Executive Officer Lucian Grainge and President & Chief Operating Officer Zach Horowitz, to whom Mr. Swatton jointly reports. Formerly, Mr. Swatton served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Universal Music Group International.
Splitting his time between the company’s Santa Monica, CA headquarters and London offices, Mr. Swatton will lead the overall strategy development and execution of UMG’s human resources policies and initiatives on a worldwide basis. He will also oversee the company's executive leadership development, compensation and benefits, and HR service delivery programmes to employees in over 70 territories, ensuring that people remain high on the company agenda.
“As we continue to grow our business, the human aspect is critical in all of our activities,” stated Mr. Grainge. “Based on this, we’ve made the decision to expand our Human Resources area by making this a global function which will help to further strengthen our organisational capability. And Malcolm is the ideal executive to lead it. Over the years, he has demonstrated true leadership and an ability to integrate human resources strategy with business plan objectives. His expertise in management and development will serve us well as we work to broaden the scope of our international organisation and become even more competitive in the global marketplace.”
“Malcolm brings a strong track record of success and broad company experience to this new position," commented Mr. Horowitz. “We are confident that he and his team will continue the excellent level of support and results we have come to rely on."
“It’s a privilege to be associated with the world's foremost music company and the world-class professionals at every level of UMG,” added Mr. Swatton. “I am thankful to Lucian and Zach for their support and for this incredible opportunity. Our focus will continue to be on bringing the right mix of expertise and fresh ideas to better serve the needs of our employees, while being more effective and efficient in this extremely challenging and competitive marketplace.”
Mr. Swatton joined UMG in 2002 as its UK Human Resource Director and then quickly rose to Senior Vice President of Human Resources UMGI.
