UNIVERSAL MUSIC GREATER CHINA APPOINTS SAM HU AS MANAGING DIRECTOR OF CHINA

BEIJING, April 22 Universal Music China (UMGC), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, today announced that it has appointed veteran music executive Sam Hu as Managing Director of Universal Music China & SVP, Universal Music Greater China, effective immediately. Based in Beijing, he will report to Timothy Xu, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Greater China.

Hu will oversee the company’s operations and strategic development in China, with a particular focus on accelerating artist development, strengthening the company’s position in the local market, delivering long-term success for domestic artists and further expanding the international reach of Chinese artists, repertoire and music culture through UMG’s global network.

Hu brings more than two decades of hands-on leadership experience across both international music companies and major domestic businesses, with a deep understanding of how to navigate both major global music corporations and China’s local music ecosystem. Over the course of his career, he has held senior roles at some of the leading music organizations in Greater China, including serving as General Manager of Warner Music China, General Manager of Sony Music Entertainment China, and Vice President of Taihe Music Group.

Throughout his career, Hu has built an influential track record across A&R, artist management, copyright management, marketing, digital music development, live entertainment operations with proven success at identifying and championing artists and strategic career-building innovation With his deep operational experience and strong industry insight, Hu has both witnessed and helped drive several major transformations in China’s music industry.

Hu holds a master’s degree in media practice from the University of Sydney.
