Multi-faceted agreement will see UMGC develop Jason Zhang’s international career, working closely with his personal label ‘Planet Culture’
BEIJING, June 3, 2026 — Universal Music Greater China (“UMGC”), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, today announced the signing of acclaimed Chinese singer, songwriter, and producer Jason Zhang. Together with Jason Zhang’s personal label ‘Planet Culture’, UMGC will work across Jason Zhang’s future recorded music, artist management, live performance, international presence and broader strategic development.
Widely recognized as one of the defining voices in Mandopop, Jason Zhang has built an extraordinary career over more than two decades through his vocal power, emotional range and enduring connection with audiences. Since rising to prominence in the mid-2000s, he has become one of the most successful and influential artists in Chinese-language pop music, with more than 17 albums and EPs to his name and a fanbase of over 100 million followers across Chinese social media platforms. He has also earned major recognition at home and abroad, including becoming the first Chinese singer to win the American Music Awards’ International Artist Award.
Jason Zhang is also widely regarded as one of the premier live performers in Chinese music. In spring 2026, he completed a landmark run of 16 sold-out shows in 24 days at Beijing National Stadium, the Bird’s Nest, drawing total attendance of more than one million and setting a new record for the most shows ever staged in a single-stop stadium run. The run formed part of his FUTURE·LIVE — Leave For 1982 World Tour, the most ambitious tour of his career to date.
Timothy Xu, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Greater China, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Jason Zhang to UMGC, whose exceptional musical talent has had great impact on Chinese music and culture. This new, holistic relationship is designed to support the next stage of Jason’s career, and in partnership with his personal label Planet Culture we look forward to taking his music to new audiences – in China, and internationally.”
Jason Zhang said: “Universal Music has built solid roots in the Greater China music industry and understands the original aspirations of Chinese musicians, alongside a well-established global music network. Without a doubt, it is the perfect partner for my next musical journey.
Going forward, the whole team at Planet Culture and I will work hand in hand with Universal. Rooted in domestic Chinese music, we will polish authentic works meticulously, introducing original Mandarin pop across Asia and to the rest of the globe, enabling global audiences to feel the power of integrated Mandopop.”
His influence has also extended well beyond the domestic market. Over the years, Jason Zhang has continued to expand his international profile through overseas touring, global collaborations and major cross-border recognition, helping bring contemporary Chinese pop music to wider audiences around the world. This new partnership reflects a shared ambition between artist and company to further broaden that reach in the years ahead.
