Rivers Cuomo of Weezer To Work With Rainn Wilson
Weezer fans will be pleased to see what’s in store for this upcoming month as Rivers Cuomo, frontman and song writer of Weezer, will be releasing a live CD and DVD set, documenting his November 25, 2008 in-store solo performance at Long Beach, California’s Fingerprintz Records music shop. The show was put on in an effort to promote the release of Cuomo’s new album Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo in December of 2008. The live set features Weezer tracks, thrown in with some of Cuomo’s solo material and finishing it off with a special encore jam consisting of all 150 members of the audience accompanying Cuomo in his rockage.
The album and documentary are both set to be released on April 28th. The DVD also includes an interview with Jason Schwartzman, musician/actor famed for his consistent appearances in Wes Anderson films, as well as being the frontman for Coconut Records and former drummer of Phantom Planet. On April 11th Cuomo and Schwartzman will also join forces for a special spot on Sirius Radio hosting the Alternative Radio Countdown Takeover. This is not the only familiar face contributing to River Cuomo’s work; Rainn Wilson, notorious for his part on NBC's The Office as Dwight Schrute, will also be lending his talents to Cuomo’s new album.
This side project does not denote the end of River Cuomo’s primary act, so Weezer fans can rest assured that the band will be returning to rock this summer. Tokyo’s Fujirock Festival on July 26th was the first announced show the ensemble will play and the Weezer website stated that other domestic and international dates will be released shortly. Perhaps this will lead up towards the much-rumored and anticipated confirmation of Weezer’s seventh studio album.
