UMG Artists Finish 2007 at the Top of the US Charts

Rounding out 2007 with steady growth in digital sales and strong presence on the Billboard charts, UMG artists had 8 of the Top 10 Digital Tracks and 6 of the Top 10 Digital Albums. Additionally, UMG also had 5 of the Top 10 Billboard albums, representing 43% of the total scans (Top 200).

After breaking out huge on Myspace, Interscope’s hip-hop sensation Soulja Boy went on to sell over 2.7 million downloads of his self-produced single, "Crank That (Soulja Boy)". The catchy pop-rap single also earned the charismatic rapper his first Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song. Other UMG acts to sell over 2 million digital tracks were Fergie, Timbaland and Gwen Stefani. Notably, Timbaland was the only artist to have 2 singles in the Top 10 Digital Tracks.

Fergie’s solo debut The Dutchess, a carry-over from 2006, continued its momentum to make the Top 10 Billboard Album Chart for 2007. Kanye West’s September release, Graduation sold nearly 2 million units in the final 3 months of 2007 to take the final spot of the Top 10 Album Chart.
