Rockferry #4 on Soundscan after 1st week

(May 21, 2008 – New York, NY) It was an album release-week launch to remember – as young Welsh singer Duffy’s triumphant premiere at the world-famous Apollo in New York City, coupled with a traffic-stopping live performance at the Virgin store on Union Square, and television appearances on ABC’s Live with Regis & Kelly, and MTV’s TRL, and NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and Ellen – have paid off with a debut at #4 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 70,943 units for ROCKFERRY, her debut album released May 13th on the newly re-launched Mercury Records label, a division of Island Def Jam Music Group.

"Over the course of three short months, what Duffy has accomplished in America with “Mercy” and the ROCKFERRY album is genuinely a phenomenon," said David Massey, President, Mercury Records. "What makes it even more remarkable is Duffy herself - down to earth with a personality that is such a joy to behold. With her unmistakable voice, she has quickly connected with her audience in a big way."

In addition to being available online and in traditional retail stores, ROCKFERRY is available at Starbucks company-operated locations in the U.S. and Canada. Also this week, Duffy’s ROCKFERRY hit #1 on iTunes and #1 at Amazon and “Mercy” debuted at #1 on the AOL video chart. “Mercy” is bulleting across the board at multiple radio formats including, Hot AC, Triple A and mainstream. “Mercy” was also heard for weeks in promo TV spots of CBS’s Moonlight and ABC’s Women’s Murder Club.

The “Mercy” video has gone positively viral at YouTube – with over 12 million views. The “Mercy” video continues in heavy rotation on VH1, VH1 Soul, FUSE, MTV Hits, and mtvU. Duffy is a “Discover & Download” artist at MTV.com and a “You Oughta Know” artist at VH1.com through June. Duffy has also been selected as “The New Now” on Yahoo Music and selected as a “NEW” featured artist for Clear Channel Online Stripped. In addition, Duffy performed an unplugged performance for AOL’s “Interface” which is available for download. Her MySpace site, http://www.myspace.com/duffymyspace, which hosted an exclusive listening party the week before the U.S. album release, has more than 3.2 million profile views; more than 2.5 million total plays.

ROCKFERRY was recorded in England with ex-Suede guitarist turned record producer Bernard Butler, Jimmy Hogarth and Steve Booker. “It’s hard for cynical music industry types to get their heads around just how far removed she was from our world,” said Butler, “geographically and in every other way. What you’ve got as a result is someone who acts and sings utterly unselfconsciously and from the heart, a most rare and magical thing.”
