MTV Announces Platinum And Gold Awards
Universal Music take 8 of the Top 12 MTV Platinum Awards
To celebrate the most played music videos across MTV’s global network, MTV International’s Talent and Music department have created a new Platinum and Gold Disc award system.
Universal Music artists account for 11 of the 20 Platinum/Gold awards, including 3 in the top 5 and 6 in the top 10. Nelly Furtado tops the list with two videos in the top 5.
To create the list, 39 MTV Music Channels from 4 continents (ex-North America) provided data on their most played music videos from February 1st 2007 to June 1st 2007.
In order to be considered Platinum the video will have had to receive more than 6000 plays during the allotted time period. For the video to be considered Gold Status a total of 3000 plays must have been recorded.
In total, the top 20 videos received more than a combined 132,000 plays across the MTV International Television Network in 120 days. On average, globally, 53,977,378 viewers tune in regularly to MTV’s music video hours.
