JAY DURGAN APPOINTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL, UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP

Universal City, CA, September 27, 1999--Jay Durgan has been appointed Senior Vice President, International, Universal Music Group, it was jointly announced today by Doug Morris, Chairman and CEO, Universal Music Group; and Zach Horowitz, President and COO, Universal Music Group.

Mr. Durgan is based in Los Angeles and reports directly to both Doug Morris and Zach Horowitz. In this position, he is responsible for coordinating the marketing activities of North American artists in international territories.

Mr. Morris commented, "The global marketplace represents enormous opportunity for our artists. A seasoned executive, Jay is a great asset to our artists, able to maximize their worldwide potential. I am pleased that Jay is a part of the Universal Music Group team. "

Mr. Horowitz said, "With 65% of our music sales coming from outside North America, international marketing strategies are an extremely important part of our efforts to break new artists and take successful artists to new levels. Jay has continually demonstrated keen insights in this area by helping to create and coordinate winning worldwide marketing campaigns. Jay is a talented executive who balances artistic sensibilities with strong worldwide business acumen. We are very happy to have him guiding our international marketing efforts."

Before joining the Universal Music Group, Mr. Durgan had served in a similar capacity as Senior Vice President, International, for PolyGram Holding, Inc. Among the artists with whom he worked to achieve multi-platinum worldwide sales are Bryan Adams, Jon Bon Jovi, Boyz II Men, Sheryl Crow, Hanson and Sting. For several years, Mr. Durgan also worked as an International executive serving various divisions of PolyGram including A&M Records and other west coast labels. During this period he was deeply involved in the international careers of Janet Jackson, Tonic, Soundgarden, Suzanne Vega, Stevie Wonder and a multitude of artists in various genres.
