UNIVERSAL MUSIC PUBLISHING GROUP SIGNS GLENN FREY TO EXCLUSIVE PUBLISHING DEAL

Santa Monica, CA, March 20, 2013 – Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has signed six-time Grammy winner, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee Glenn Frey to an exclusive, worldwide publishing agreement excluding U.S., as announced today by Evan Lamberg, President, North America, UMPG. As one of the founding members and main songwriters of the Eagles, Frey helped the band become the best-selling group of the 1970s.

“It's an honor for Universal Music Publishing to be representing Glenn's catalog. He is arguably one of the most culturally significant special songwriters any generation has seen,” said Evan Lamberg.

“We look forward to our partnership with Evan Lamberg and everyone at Universal Music Publishing Group,” said Irving Azoff. “Great songs need a publisher that truly understands and appreciates their value and we’ve found that with UMPG,” said Irving Azoff.

After the group formed in 1971, Glenn Frey’s songwriting proved essential to the signature sound that won the Eagles six Grammys and made them the best-selling band of the 70s. Before disbanding in 1980, they found consistent success with each album they released throughout the decade, including Eagles (1972), Desperado (1973), On the Border (1974), One of These Nights (1975), Hotel California (1976), and The Long Run (1979). Frey penned some of their  most celebrated songs, including classics like “Desperado” “Tequila Sunrise,” “Best of My Love,” “One of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It to the Limit,” “Hotel California,” and “Life in the Fast Lane.”

After the Eagles’ unparalleled achievements throughout the 1970s, Frey went on to enjoy a fruitful solo career in the 80s and beyond, releasing a string of well-received albums and scoring hits with his originals “You Belong to the City” and “Smuggler’s Blues.” Frey and the rest of the Eagles later regrouped and released Long Road Out of Eden in 2007, which became their sixth No. 1 album and was certified 7x Platinum by the RIAA.
