UNIVERSAL MUSIC & VIDEO DISTRIBUTION EXPANDS INTO EXPLODING DVD MARKETPLACE WITH UMVD/ VISUAL ENTERTAINMENT
New Partnership with Trinity Yields 300 Titles that Feature Award Winners Diane Lane, Brian Dennehy, Treat Williams, Kirstie Alley & Michael J. Fox, among others
Los Angeles, California, Wednesday, February 17, 2004 - In a strategic move to further develop, acquire and distribute DVDs -- one of the fastest growing entertainment formats – Universal Music & Video Distribution (UMVD) today launched Universal Music & Video Distribution Visual Entertainment, a new division that will enable the company to expand beyond its commanding lead in the music marketplace and capitalize further on the exploding home DVD film arena, it was announced by Jim Urie, President of Universal Music & Video Distribution.
Moreover, it was also announced that UMVD’s Visual Entertainment has entered into a dynamic new partnership with Trinity Home Entertainment to distribute up to 300 budget line films, the first of which will be distributed in late April. This alliance is the first of several strategic partnerships UMVD is developing with film content providers to further open up the flood gates of the home DVD category. The company plans an aggressive new rollout of its Trinity film releases that will utilize the same sales and marketing muscle that has made UMVD a market share leader. For the fifth consecutive year, UMVD ranked #1 in market share, securing a whopping 28.1% of all the music sold nationally in 2003.
“Thanks to our past success and experience in working with Universal Studios on such titles as Shrek and Seabiscuit, we are well positioned to expand our business model and aggressively move into home DVD sales,” stated Urie. “And we could not pick a better partner than Trinity to launch our Visual Entertainment arm.”
