UNIVERSAL MUSIC GREATER CHINA WELCOMES VERSATILE YOUNG STAR NANA OUYANG TO ITS GLOBAL ARTIST ROSTER
Ten Years After Her Debut with UMG, Nana Ouyang Returns to Embark on a New Genre-crossing Journey with Expansive Global Reach
BEIJING, September 23, 2025 – Universal Music Greater China (UMGC), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world leader in music-based entertainment, today announced the signing of multi-faceted young artist Nana Ouyang — a renowned cellist, singer-songwriter, and actress. The collaboration encompasses music development, global distribution, artist representation for music-focused activities and brand partnerships, offering long-term support for Nana’s artistic evolution and cross-genre creative journey through UMG’s global network.
This renewed agreement comes exactly ten years after she released her debut album <15> with Universal Music and marks a meaningful full-circle moment in Nana’s evolving artistic journey. Over the past decade, she has grown into a distinctive creative force, spanning music, acting, fashion, and art, and has emerged as a powerful cultural voice for her generation. This new chapter broadens both the scope and scale of the collaboration between artist and label, leveraging UMG’s global infrastructure, creative expertise, and international reach to support Nana in achieving new artistic breakthroughs and greater commercial successes.
Timothy Xu, Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Greater China, said: “Nana represents a rare blend of musical talent, artistic curiosity, and cultural impact. From a cello prodigy to an accomplished music creator, she has come a long way over the past decade — and at just 25, her future holds immense potential. We’re delighted to welcome her back to Universal Music at the start of this exciting new phase in her artistic journey. Backed by UMG’s diverse family of world-leading labels – our proven expertise in building long-term, full-spectrum artist careers – we look forward to supporting Nana to further explore new creative horizons while strengthening her cultural influence and commercial success across both local and international markets.”
Nana Ouyang said: “It’s been ten years since I released my first album with Universal Music. Now at 25, reconnecting with the label makes this moment feel even more meaningful — it’s the best birthday gift I could have wished for, and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. I’m excited about working with a team that understands my vision and supports my creative freedom. And with UMG’s global platform, I hope my music can reach more audiences around the world, resonate across cultures, and lead me to discover new creative forms of artistic possibilities.”
At the age of 15, Nana first signed with Universal Music China and released her debut classical album 15 — a cello performance record that achieved platinum certification for Asia. In 2017, she became the first artist from the Greater China region to collaborate with Disney on Cello Loves Disney, reinterpreting beloved Disney songs through cello. Beginning in 2020, Nana stepped fully into her role as a singer-songwriter with her original EP trilogy — NANA I, NANA II, and NANA III — a bold creative statement she described as her “rebellion at twenty.” She continued to expand her artistic voice with Live Today, her first English-language album composed entirely by herself, and The Star, a Chinese-language album also featuring her own songwriting. Most recently, her cello EP Love Letter, widely seen as her “25” project, showcases her original compositions and arrangements. The physical release — available on CD and vinyl — sold out immediately after pre-orders opened.
Raised in an artistically rooted family, Nana began studying piano and cello at an early age and was widely recognized as a musical prodigy. At 13, she was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music with a full scholarship and later studied contemporary music at Berklee College of Music. With over 50 million followers across social media platforms, she connects with a young generation through her life-sharing vlogs and creative storytelling content. She was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list for her ability to bridge artistic credibility with mainstream influence.
