Nashville, TN, August 28, 2012 – Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) today announced the company has extended its worldwide publishing agreement with Darius Rucker.  The agreement encompasses his upcoming album, set to debut in early 2013, as well as his previous works, Learn to Live, and Charleston, SC 1966.  Rucker’s first single off his upcoming album, “True Believers,” is set to impact radio this month.

“We’re thrilled to extend our already successful relationship with Darius Rucker,” commented Kent Earls, Executive Vice President/General Manager, UMPG Nashville.  “Darius has raised the bar with his upcoming album and we look forward to many more years of hit songs, including the newest single, ‘True Believers.’”

“UMPG has been a partner from the beginning–since Learn To Live–and they are as passionate about my music as I am,” shared Rucker.  “For me, that’s what’s it’s all about. I can hardly wait to share this new music with the fans.”

Rucker’s platinum-selling debut album, Learn to Live (Capitol Records Nashville) hit the No. 5 spot on the Billboard 200 Top Albums chart and made the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top Country Albums.  It produced three hit singles (“Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” and “Alright”) that reached the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.  All of the songs were co-written by Rucker.  In 2009, Rucker won top honors from the Country Music Association (CMA) by being named “New Artist of the Year” and “Male Vocalist of the Year” at the Country Music Awards.

Rucker’s sophomore album Charleston, SC 1966 (Capitol Records Nashville) was released in October of 2010, and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, and No. 1 on the UK Country Albums chart. The album earned two No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart – “This” and “Come Back Song” which also hit Top 10 on Billboard’s Year-End Hot Country Songs chart.

Rucker, managed by McGhee Entertainment, has sold over 25 million albums – both as a solo artist and as a member of the band Hootie & the Blowfish.
