UMG Channel Sets Record With Over 205 Million Views
Los Angeles, California, August 23, 2007 – Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, has earned the #1 position on YouTube’s “Most Viewed – All Time” chart, making it YouTube’s most popular video channel, according to the worldwide video sharing network. In doing so, UMG earned over an unprecedented 205 Million views, surpassing such popular channels as CBS and NBC, among many others, by more than 40 million more views.
UMG also earned the #1 ‘Director – All Time’ and #1 ‘Partner – All Time’ titles, according to YouTube’s rankings.
The YouTube honors mark another record in a string of digital firsts for UMG: just last week, the UMG/Japan single, ‘Aiuta” (‘Love Song’) by GreeeeN, a quartet of Japanese medical students, became the first full-track mobile download to sell over one million copies. Moreover, SRC/Universal Motown recording artist Akon recently became the top selling mastertone artist of all time, with over 11 million mastertones. The songs, which include “Smack That” (certified by RIAA triple platinum), “Don’t Matter” (double platinum) and “I Wanna Love You” (double platinum) are from Akon’s double platinum sophomore album, “Konvicted.” Akon is also the only artist with three mastertone tracks that have hit multi-platinum status.
