The availability of the UMG GRAMMY-nominated artists’ digital downloads will also be featured in a national marketing campaign that includes print, radio, in-store and online ads.

Today’s announcement builds upon the November 2002 launch of UMG’s digital download offering, which was the largest release of digital music for purchase in the history of the music business. Using technology from Liquid Audio, music fans can purchase tracks from the UMG digital catalog, which now includes more than 60,000 tracks, and spans many genres including classical, jazz, rock, pop, R&B, blues, and country. UMG is the only major label to offer music fans such a broad catalog of music tracks (current and catalog releases) for preview and purchase. The downloads are burnable to CD and transferable to secure portable devices. Music fans can preview and purchase music tracks in both the Liquid Audio and Windows Media formats.

“UMVD is thrilled to leverage our artists’ success by launching this exciting promotional program providing consumers with the opportunity to preview and purchase music online from UMG Grammy nominated artists,” commented Jim Urie, President, Universal Music and Video Distribution. “We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to drive business and market our music and the GRAMMYS provide the perfect platform for a program. The digital distribution revolution has indeed begun, and we will continue to empower our customers to give the consumer hit music in any format, physical or digital, they desire.”
