New York, NY (May 4, 2004)—The Island Def Jam Music Group has named Steve Bartels to President of Island Records, it was announced today by Antonio “LA” Reid, Chairman of Island Def Jam. Mr. Bartels will be based in New York.

Prior to joining Island Records, Mr. Bartels held a number of key positions at Arista Records. He most recently served as Executive Vice President. During his time at Arista, Mr. Bartels was instrumental in breaking such artists as Outkast, Usher, Pink, Avril Lavigne and Dido. Mr. Bartels first joined Arista Records in 1993 as Vice President of Special Projects. Prior to joining Arista, he served as National Director of Promotion at A&M Records. Mr. Bartels is a graduate of Hofstra University and completed the MBA Program of UCLA’s John Anderson School of Executive Education in Management.
