London, July 3, 2014 – Spinnup, the new digital platform for unsigned artists unlike any other, is coming to the UK in partnership with Island Records.

The UK roll-out comes as Spinnup is showing its power to help new artists with its first number one success – 24-year-old rap/pop artist Albin who topped both the Spotify and iTunes charts in his native Sweden last week with his huge summer hit ‘Din Soldat’. The song, which was first released by Albin on Spinnup earlier this year, has now been streamed eight million times and has just been certified platinum.

Launched last year by Universal Music Sweden in collaboration with X5 Music Group, Spinnup supports unsigned artists from anywhere in the world who want to release their music and get discovered. Spinnup distributes tracks globally via X5 on major platforms such as Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Deezer, Rhapsody and WiMP and uniquely has a network of scouts with a direct line into Universal Music’s A&R teams.

Spinnup Scouts explore all the music on Spinnup, looking for the best new artists to support and help gain a recording deal. Island Records is building a community of UK-based Spinnup Scouts who will discover the most talented and exciting new artists on Spinnup and bring the most promising to the award-winning A&R team at Island Records, giving them the chance to follow in the footsteps of Island’s countless seminal and globally successful artists.

Glenn Cooper, Director of Digital at Island Records, said: “Digital distribution is a key stepping stone in the career of any unsigned artist and Spinnup provides the perfect ecosystem to help them get their music to market.  Island Records has consistently broken ground in both the digital and A&R space; Spinnup sits alongside our existing crowdfunding platform and both deliver unique, innovative opportunities to discover and nurture new acts.”

Albin wrote ‘Din Soldat’ towards the end of 2013. He used Spinnup to distribute the track worldwide and was immediately spotted by Swedish Spinnup scout Sebastian Karlsson who brought the song to Universal Music Sweden. Albin was signed up for a full record deal by Universal Music Sweden in April and with the company’s marketing and promotional support behind him the track is now the most popular in the country. He performed the song on top rated Swedish TV show ‘Allsång på Skansen’ last week and will release the ‘Din Soldat’ EP on 6 August.

“‘Din Soldat’ has a life of its own,” says Albin. “The response from fans has been unreal. They found the track online and shared it via blogs, Facebook, Instagram etc which is what made it a hit.”
