NEW YORK, NOVEMBER 16, 1999 – Sandy Smallens has been named Executive Vice President of Programming and Content for GetMusic, the joint venture between BMG Entertainment and Universal Music Group to promote artists and sell their music online. Andrew Nibley, President and Chief Executive Officer of the company, made the announcement today.

Smallens will be responsible for the development and production of GetMusic’s online programs, channels and products. He will be accountable for long-range content planning and for developing and acquiring a continuous flow of successful services, products and programs. In addition, he will oversee and determine the direction of online executive producers, product managers, and project managers in the creation and delivery of Internet content.

“In Sandy, we are gaining an Internet veteran and music industry professional whose knowledge and leadership ability ensures that GetMusic will establish itself as the premier entertainment and e-commerce business in the very near future,” said Nibley. “He understands the significance of bringing artists and their fans closer together online, and I could not be more delighted that he is joining our team.”

Smallens served from 1998 as Senior Vice President of Programming at SonicNet (now a division of MTVi), where he oversaw creation, development, and delivery of content. He joined Prodigy in 1996 as Vice President/General Manager of Content, and from 1993 to 1996, he was Senior Director of Multimedia for Atlantic Records, where he launched one of the first major label Web sites.

Prior to Atlantic, Smallens accumulated over seven years of experience with music in several different capacities, including founder, bassist and vocalist with Giant/Warner Bros. punk-pop band Too Much Joy, freelance media writer for Spin magazine and various labels and Interactive Producer of the first floppy-disc press kit for The Cure, Gumball and SonicNet BBS, to name a few.
