SANDY MONTEIRO APPOINTED MANAGING DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSAL MUSIC MALAYSIA
Hong Kong, October 8, 2002 – Malaysian music industry veteran Sandy Monteiro has been appointed the new Managing Director of Universal Music Malaysia, effective December 1, it was announced today by Harry Hui, President of Universal Music Southeast Asia.
Monteiro will take over from outgoing managing director Ian Ng whose contract with Universal Music Malaysia ends on December 31. Mr Ng, who has been with Universal Music Malaysia since May 2000, is leaving the company for personal reasons.
Monteiro has been an active member of the music industry since joining Warner Music in 1993 as head of the International repertoire division. He has also played an important part in setting up MCA’s first Malaysian operations, helping the label break new acts such as No Doubt and Aqua in the country.
He has also served for three years as the Executive Director of the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM), where he spearheaded many of the industry’s efforts to fight music piracy. He joins Universal Music from new media company Soundbuzz Inc. where he was General Manager of Southeast Asia and regional Director for Music and Marketing.
