ROOS DEPARTS AS PRESIDENT/CEO, UNIVERSAL MUSIC NETHERLANDS; VAN DER HOEVEN IS NAMED SUCCESSOR
BAARN, Netherlands/LONDON, March 22, 2007 – Universal Music Netherlands President/CEO Theo Roos has decided to relinquish his post, which he has held for the past 14 years. The announcement was made today by Universal Music Group International Chairman & CEO Lucian Grainge, to whom Roos reports.
With immediate effect, Kees van der Hoeven, 42, is appointed as President/CEO of Universal Music Netherlands, reporting to Grainge. He was Managing Director of Universal Music Publishing Benelux, a post he has held since 1997.
Roos, 60, also intends to step down as Senior Vice President, UMGI, for the Nordic and Belgian region, but will continue in that post until a successor is appointed.
Lucian Grainge commented, “Theo Roos has been one of Universal Music’s most effective, most successful European executives for these past 14 years, and we’re sorry he’s decided to leave. In particular, Theo and his team have helped to make Universal Music Netherlands a gateway to Europe for many new U.S. and U.K. artists. We are grateful for his contributions, and wish him all the best for the future.”
Theo Roos said, “I have tremendously enjoyed my work as head of Universal Music’s Dutch company, where each year we have been able to strengthen our position as the market leader. We also substantially gained market share during 2006. In addition, I am particularly proud of the global success of artists we signed in Holland, such as Andre Rieu and Andrea Bocelli, and of the many local hit albums from this country’s number one male artist, Marco Borsato, and, recently, female star Ilse de Lange.”
