Los Angeles, California, November 9, 2007 – Universal Music Group Distribution (UMGD), the award-winning sales, marketing and distribution subsidiary of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, has appointed Ron Spaulding to Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fontana, UMGD’s independent distribution arm. The announcement was made today by Jim Urie, President of UMGD, to whom Spaulding reports.

“Fontana has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception just under two years ago,” stated Mr. Urie. “So we weren’t going to trust its leadership to just anyone. With Ron, we have a respected, experienced creative executive with a proven track record of building companies. We are confident that he will continue to build on Fontana’s position as the go-to independent distributor for savvy labels.”

“Jim and I have wanted to work together for some time,” added Mr. Spaulding. “So this is just a great opportunity. Fontana has established itself as an artist and label friendly distributor, one that is uniquely positioned in the independent marketplace – able to leverage the strengths of UMGD while remaining true to the independent spirit. I am looking forward to working with Jim, an incredible team, and our partners to expand on their success even further.”

Prior to joining Fontana, Mr. Spaulding served as Executive Vice President/General Manager of Asylum and EastWest Records, overseeing the day-to-day operations of both labels. He also served as the Senior Vice President of Sales at WEA, Warner Music Group’s distribution arm. While at Warner Music, Mr. Spaulding was instrumental in such successful labels as Fueled By Ramen (What We Aim For, Gym Class Heroes, Paramore), 7 Brothers Records (Sevendust), Glassnote Records (Secondhand Serenade), Eleven: A Music Company (Silverchair), Fearless Records (Plain White T’s), and Swishahouse (Mike Jones, Paul Wall), among others. Formerly, Mr. Spaulding served as Senior Vice President of Sales at Elektra Entertainment Group. He began his career in the music industry at Priority Records, first in Minneapolis as a Sales Representative, and later, becoming Vice President of Sales at the label’s Los Angeles office.
