LONDON, MAY 1, 2013  – Universal Music has signed a worldwide license deal with new Swedish dance label PRMD for the global release of the debut album from internationally renowned DJ and producer Avicii which will be released later this year. This new partnership will see PRMD working with Virgin EMI Records in the UK, including its hugely successful Positiva label which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Soon to be based in Stockholm in a brand new four recording studio complex next to the Swedish Royal Theatre, PRMD first came to prominence last year with the release of global dance hit “Beam MeUp” from Cazzette which reached number one on the Billboard Clubplay Chart and number two on the Music Week Upfront Club Chart. Cazzette’s debut album “Eject” was released earlier this year, initially through an exclusive partnership with Spotify which generated over 23 million unique Spotify streams.

PRMD has also become the label home to 23-year old Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii, who in the last few years has become one of the leading electronic music artists all over the world. He has already sold over five million singles and was voted number three in the most recent annual top 100 DJ list compiled by DJ Magazine. He is currently putting the finishing touches to his highly anticipated debut album, more details of which will be announced in due course.

Ash Pournouri, PRMD board member and manager of Avicii, said: “PRMD provides insight and expertise in the world of electronic music and on how to speak to that audience. The label is based at its core on modern day consumer behavior in the digital age and contributes with an innovative approach to distribution and marketing.”

Per Sundin, Senior Vice President – Nordic Region, Universal Music, said: “Ash and Tim and all the PRMD guys have achieved a really impressive amount for a new label. With all their great ideas and the strength and passion of Universal Music around the world behind them this is a very exciting and promising partnership.”
