NEW APPOINTMENTS AT UNIVERSAL MUSIC SWEDEN/STOCKHOLM RECORDS
MARTEN AGLANDER APPOINTED MANAGING DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSAL MUSIC SWEDEN/STOCKHOLM RECORDS
OLA HAKANSSON APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF UNIVERSAL MUSIC SWEDEN/STOCKHOLM RECORDS
STOCKHOLM, 13 November, 2003 –– The operational activities of Universal Music AB and Stockholm Records AB in Sweden have been combined, it was announced today by Theo Roos, Senior Vice President, Universal Music International, Nordic Countries.
Mårten Aglander has been appointed Managing Director of the combined operations and will have full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the business.
Ola Håkansson has been appointed Chairman of the combined operations, supervising the direction and the development of local A&R. Mr. Håkansson will also pursue other independent activities in the Swedish market.
Both executives will report to Theo Roos. Previously, Mr. Aglander was General Manager of Universal Music Sweden, and Mr. Håkansson was Managing Director of Stockholm Records.
The restructured company’s domestic artists and repertoire will continue to be released on the Stockholm Records, Sonet and Polar labels. The artist roster includes The Cardigans, A*Teens, Lisa Miskovsky, Lambretta, Carola, Fredrik Kempe, Lars Winnerbäck and E-Type.
The Swedish company also directs all worldwide activities around the Abba catalogue under the Polar Music International AB entity.
Theo Roos said: “The consolidation of the two Swedish companies is a natural step that will enable us to join forces and become even more competitive in the Swedish market. I’m confident that Mårten and Ola are the team that can meet the difficulties of the current market downturn in the best possible way, as well as seizing the opportunities that will arise.”
Mårten Aglander said: “After a turbulent year, we now have a new improved structure with dedicated teams for all functions. They are ready to take on the challenges of maximising the potential of our great international and local repertoire in a changing market environment. I’m delighted to get to work with Ola in the exciting times to come.”
Ola Håkansson said: “I look forward to working with Mårten in my new role. The combined local roster of Stockholm and Universal is among the strongest in Scandinavia. This year we have had four local No. 1 albums across the two companies, and with the new line-up I think we are very well positioned for the future.”
