New Label to Focus on Robust Regional Mexican Genre

In a move which underscores its commitment to further expanding the marketplace for Latin music, Machete Music, a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, has launched Machete Regional, a new division dedicated exclusively to the discovery and development of Regional Mexican artists and repertoire. The announcement was made today by Machete Music President and Founder Gustavo López.

Machete Regional will be a full service division, encompassing a comprehensive array of Regional Mexican genres such as norteño, grupero, ranchero, mariachi, quebradita, banda and Tejano, among others. Machete Regional will provide artists with extensive marketing, promotion, digital and distribution services, and will benefit from Machete’s artist-centric approach to developing new music.

“The launch of Machete Regional not only recognizes the strength, musical quality and enormous business potential of Regional Mexican, but our commitment to its artistic community,” stated Mr. López. “Our strategy is about artist development first and foremost.
