(September 17, 2004 – New York, NY) Larry Mattera has been promoted to Senior Vice President, New Media, Island Def Jam Music Group, it was announced today by Steve Bartels, president, Island Records.

In his new post, Mr. Mattera will be responsible for all aspects of IDJ’s new media strategy including: content development, online marketing, digital commerce, wireless initiatives, and the use of new technologies to maximize sales and break new artists. Mr. Mattera, who is based in New York, will report directly to Mr. Bartels.

“I am pleased to announce Larry’s long overdue promotion,” said Mr. Bartels. “Larry is a proven creative, driven and entrepreneurial executive in the New Media area. His insight, team-building and leadership abilities will insure that IDJ remains on the forefront of the new technological order in the music business.”

“As I enter my second decade in the online and new technologies area, I realize that we have only begun to explore its potential for marketing and artist development opportunities in the music industry,” said Mr. Mattera. “IDJ has already established itself as a leading force in the digital landscape, and as I begin working alongside L.A. Reid and Steve Bartels, I expect our position to expand into even more creative endeavors.”

Mr. Mattera has served as Vice President, New Media, Island Def Jam Music Group, since January 1999, when he created and established the department. Since then, he has been involved in every facet of its business, including development of online marketing strategies, consumer database and reporting systems, direct to consumer marketing campaigns, and management of artist and label web sites. Under his direction, the department also pioneered pre-release strategies for digital commercial singles, developed an online demo submission site for unsigned artists, and negotiated various cost-saving and incremental income agreements.

Mr. Mattera came to IDJ from Polygram Group Distribution (PGD) in New York, where he was Director, New Media Technologies since 1996. He began his career in music as Manager, Online Marketing and Business Development at Epic Records in New York, starting in 1994. Mr. Mattera graduated from Sacred Heart University in 1989, with the Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. He earned the Master of Arts degree in Music Entertainment Professions from New York University in 1995.
