JAPANESE TECHNO-POP TRIO, PERFUME, SIGN WITH UNIVERSAL MUSIC
GLOBAL DIGITAL RELEASE IN 50+ COUNTRIES FOR ALBUM “JPN”
TOKYO, March 7, 2012 – Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, is pleased to announce a worldwide recording agreement with Japanese mega-hit techno-pop girl trio PERFUME, starting with their worldwide iTunes release of their most recent number one hit album “JPN”, and the unveiling of their global web page. PERFUME has been one of the most popular groups in Japan ever since their breakthrough single “Polyrhythm” was released in 2007. It launched the techno-pop genre, and propelled the group to mainstream popularity along with their producer Yasutaka Nakata (capsule). As for their live show, PERFUME has tantalised audiences with high-energy performances, complete with the use of futuristic lasers and choreographed dance performances.
This year they are on their third national tour, named after their album “JPN”. The 13-city tour, which began on January 14, consists of 22 shows and is expected to reach an audience of close to 200,000 people. In the past, they have achieved sold out concerts at arena-level venues such as the Tokyo Dome.
The new agreement with Universal Music, announced today, will mark the first time the group will focus their efforts to reach a global audience. They are expected to appear in events throughout Asia, Europe, and North America in the near future.
