Universal City, CA, April 17, 2007 – Fontana, the independent distribution arm of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company, has signed an exclusive distribution deal with Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL Music), it was announced today by Steve Pritchitt, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fontana and ESL Music Founders Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. Once created to just distribute the music of Garza and Hilton’s Thievery Corporation, ESL has rapidly expanded into a full service label that includes many additional emerging artists.

“Fontana is thrilled to welcome ESL to the fold, as one of the originators of the world downtempo scene, they have really set the standard,” stated Bryan Mead, Fontana’s Vice President of Marketing and Label Relations. “We look forward to helping them take that next step in their evolution.

“We are very excited to be working with Fontana,” added Rob Garza and Eric Hilton. “In this ever changing marketplace, we feel that Fontana is ahead of the game in the areas that we’ve identified as important for our label.”

Under this new agreement, Fontana will distribute ESL Music product in the US, while working closely with ESL on extending its brand further in the marketplace by capitalizing on the many new and emerging opportunities across a variety of retail and new media platforms.

ESL Music’s roster includes a wide range of music including the mod-breakbeats of Ursula 1000 and Chris Joss, the spy film and near eastern polyrhythms of Thunderball and The Karminsky Experience, the ethereal soundscapes of Blue States and Arkestra One, the sinister atmospherics of Sofa Surfers, the jazz-infusion of Nicola Conte and Les Hommes, and the Latin soul of Federico Aubele.

About Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL Music)

Founded in 1996 by Rob Garza and Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation, Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL Music) has quickly become one of the world’s leading independent music labels. Initially established to deliver the sounds of Thievery Corporation to the world, the label has since expanded its artist roster and taken off to new horizons.

Active within the emerging electronic music scene of the mid 90’s, Eric and Rob dropped ESL Music’s first vinyl singles “2001 Spliff Odyssey,” and “Shaolin Satellite” to rave review. Borrowing from the classically sensual and blunted sounds of their favorite Brazilian bossa nova, Jamaican dub reggae, and vintage Italian film soundtracks Thievery Corporation forged into new sonic territory that would become the distinct outernational sound of ESL Music. ESL Music offers a wide range of sonic temptations for the discriminating and sophisticated ears of the music aficionado.
