MILAN, March 5, 2009 – At Universal Music Italy, Alessandro Massara has been named Managing Director, effective immediately. The appointment was announced today by Pascal Negre, President, Mediterranean/South America/Middle East, at Universal Music Group International, to whom he reports.

Massara has been Director of Universal Music Italy’s Domestic Division since 2008. Previously, he served as Managing Director of V2 Records Italy from 1999-2007.

Pascal Negre said, “Our Italian company has been growing in the last couple of years. The goal with Alessandro at the helm will be to continue this momentum, focusing especially on signing and developing new talent, and exploring new avenues for our business.”

Massara commented, “This is going to be a fantastic challenge for me. I’m grateful to Pascal Negre for the opportunity, and I’m confident that we will be able to find innovative, creative solutions to the challenges currently facing the music industry in our country.”

Massara started in the music industry at Flying Records from 1988-97, eventually leaving his position as Managing Director of the label’s Milan branch to start his own company, Spin-go. He joined V2 Italy in 1999 as Managing Director, until V2 was acquired in 2007 by Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company.
