ASHLEY BURNS NAMED GENERAL MANAGER OF VIRGIN RECORDS
JOINS CHIEF CREATIVE OFFICER/EVP RON FAIR IN REBUILDING LABEL
Los Angeles, CA, January 23, 2013 – Ashley Burns has been named General Manager of Virgin Records, it was announced today by Steve Barnett, Chairman & CEO of Capitol Records Group, to whom Burns will report. In her new position, Burns will helm the company’s marketing and publicity efforts and work with Capitol Music Group’s core teams to develop and implement sales and promotion plans, as well as utilizing the Group’s other centralized services to benefit Virgin’s artists. Burns will work alongside Virgin’s Chief Creative Officer and Executive Vice President Ron Fair, and will be based in Hollywood, California at the company’s iconic Capitol Tower.
Burns has spent her entire career as a valued executive within EMI and Capitol. She was most recently Executive Vice President, North America for EMI, overseeing the company’s partnerships within the digital, mobile and online spaces – including iTunes, Amazon, Youtube and Vevo – and overseeing digital planning and strategy for EMI artists. Burns also helmed the company’s strategic initiatives and new product development in the digital space. She joined EMI’s Commercial team in 2007 and oversaw the company’s digital sales as Senior Vice President of Commercial Development.
One of Burns’s most noted achievements was her leadership in the hugely successful release of The Beatles music on iTunes. Burns worked closely with The Beatles’ Apple Corps., as well as with iTunes executives to plan and implement the launch of one of the industry’s most anticipated and successful endeavors of the past decade. She continues to oversee all strategic initiatives and planning for The Beatles within the digital space. Burns has worked on the digital campaigns for superstar artists Katy Perry, Coldplay, Norah Jones, Dépêche Mode and Gorillaz, as well as devising digital plans for numerous established and developing artists, including Swedish House Mafia, Amos Lee and, most recently, Emeli Sande.

Burns was named Vice President of Finance for Capitol Records in 2003, and was ultimately promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the company in 2006. She began her career at Capitol Records after earning a BS in Finance from the University of Southern California, and subsequently earned her MBA there while concurrently pursuing her career.
