Lady Gaga Kicks off London’s iTunes Festival 2013
Superstar Lady Gaga was back with a bang when she opened the UK's iTunes Festival on September 1st at London's Roundhouse.
Gaga's adoring ‘monsters’ filled the ARTPOP decked out venue as they eagerly waited for the singer to take the stage to premiere new material from her forthcoming album. Film crews interviewed super fans dressed in silver spacesuits, shell bikinis, pig snouts and painted ARTPOP faces.
In true Gaga style, the pop star entered the stage donned in a black ninja outfit complete with mask and kicked off the show with three dancers lifting the singer into a cage which was then elevated into the air as she sang the electronic sounding “Aura”. She closed the performance with a “What’s up London!”, before elaborately making a quick change into a sparkly black bra.
The extravagant pop singer launched into her second song “Manicure” during which the stage filled with glitter. Fans around the world were also able to catch the spectacular performance by streaming the show via the iTunes website.
Fans went wild as the “Poker Face” singer changed into a big curly blonde wig and a sea shell bikini. The background screen changed to images of water and sea life with colourful lasers beaming onto the stage as she sang “ArtPop”.
She took a moment to chat with the packed audience and spoke of how she missed them while picking up soft pig toys from the stage that fans had thrown. She explained how her new material had a very different sound from her previous albums and she had enjoyed making music that she loves.
Dressed in fishnet stockings, Lady Gaga took to the keyboard as she sang the catchy hip hop track “Jewels & Drugs”, with a surprise appearance from rappers Twista and Too $hort who joined her on stage.
The fifth album taster of the evening “Sex Dreams”, saw Gaga sit on an egg shaped chair before launching into a sultry dance routine complete with a stage full of backing dancers.
The singer described to her fans that she wore her wigs to create someone else as she wasn’t comfortable in her own skin. She took off her wig and unveiled her real hair and said that the song she was about to perform was written in order to let go of her pain.
“Swine” was a spectacular stage production that saw pigs in white boiler suits performing acrobatics. Sprayed ARTPOP canvases were thrown into the audience to the delight of a few lucky audience members who were able to take the memorabilia home.
She moved on to a track with a song written for the fans “I Wanna Be With You” before disappearing from the stage. The venue was filled with thousands of chants and “Applause” for Gaga to return to the stage, fans were delighted when she came back for an encore as she closed the show with ARTPOP’s first single from the album.
ARTPOP will be released globally on November 11.
