The Story: Karina
An Exclusive Interview with Karina's Def Jam Recordings Representative
When did you first hear Karina's music?
I First heard Karina do a cover of Celine Dion's "My heart will go on" when she was seven years old on the piano. The then extremely young Karina told me she really liked that song. I asked her who gave her the music to learn it on the keys and she nonchalantly responded, "I just figured it out by listening to the song." I was blown away and realized there was something real different and special in this young lady.

Page 1 of 6What excited you most about Karina?
Aside from her incredible musical and vocal abilities, her humility. Even though everyone that has had the pleasure of watching her perform and sing her praises, including many accomplished artists and musicians, she still remains very grounded and headstrong.
How does Karina's music make you feel?
Reminiscent of when music was in it's golden era and in it's purity. It brings me chills and an aura of calmness. I can be very descriptive and go on forever, so let's just say her music makes my job worth loving.

Page 2 of 6When did you know that Karina would be the next sensation?
When all the little girls in her neighborhood started taking piano and vocal lessons to be like her. And before all of that just watching her get better and better day by day.
What about Karina has you passionate about working with her?
Like I stated before, She just gets better and better by the day, she is already so far ahead of some artists older than her that it's just so exciting to see where she'll be 10 years from now.

Karina is compared to so many great artists! I would say she is a combination of many of those she is compared to.
What track on Karina’s New Album was the most interesting to do?
The most interesting song to do was "Baby Baby." Mainly because the song has a different Swag to it, its more of a flow than a melody, almost like a rap, and just the fact that it's the only song with a feautured artist on it.
(Lil' Mama makes it even that more special.)

Page 4 of 6Do you have any interesting collaborations on the new album, and who would you like to get Karina in the studio with?
Well like I said before lil' Mama is the only collaboration as far as a feautured artist goes, but Ne-Yo wrote a song for her titled "Can you Handle It" and of course The Dream wrote a couple of songs also. As far as a collaboration; a duet between Karina and Stevie Wonder would just be amazing!

Page 5 of 6What can the world expect from Karina?
First and foremost something not seen in a real long time: Fresh new talent delivering solid music with a message. I think the world is going to see through this album the birth of a new movement in music. Artists at the age when Karina was signed are not expected to concieve an album like "First Love," although it was recorded in the span of when Karina was 14 through 17, there is a maturity and a relative feel in each song independently. The world is getting ready to see not just it's next biggest star spearheading modern day music, but an icon in the making!! Word to Michael Jackson! I mean it.
