WELCOME (BACK) TO WHEREVER YOU ARE: UNIVERSAL MUSIC TO UPGRADE INXS CATALOGUE

LONDON, May 3, 2011 – In a new, long-term agreement, the album catalogue of INXS, one of the world’s most popular bands of the past 25 years, is to be regenerated and reissued by Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company. The first titles will become available next month.

The deal was sealed by Chris Murphy, longtime manager of INXS, and Andrew Daw, Vice President, Strategic Marketing, Universal Music Group International. It covers the world outside North and South America.

From their original formation in Australia in 1977, INXS created a body of work which has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, including No. 1 hits in four continents, six UK Top 10 albums, five US Top 20 albums, and 33 hits in their homeland. The band’s most successful releases include 1987’s “Kick,” with global sales of 10 million,1990’s “X” and 1992’s “Welcome To Wherever You Are.”

The current line-up of INXS remains a force in music, with sell-out concert dates around the world. The band recently announced the headline slot at the inaugural “Southern Sounds” festival, which takes place in London this June. Earlier in the year, the band undertook their first Australian tour since 2007.

Newly remastered, the INXS album catalogue will be re-released by Universal Music companies beginning this summer, and be available for the first time in several years in both digital and physical formats. Additional releases, including a new 2011 “Collection,” will be supported by significant marketing and promotional activity.

Andrew Daw commented, “We’re delighted to see the return of INXS. People forget how significant an act they have been. During the 1990s, along with U2 and Guns ’N Roses, they were THE stadium band. We're looking forward to giving this catalogue the respect it so richly deserves.”

“INXS and Chris Murphy, their manager, are delighted to have all their classic recordings reunited with Universal Music, and look forward to working alongside NS&A and the international catalogue division of UMG in re-establishing the huge world brand they created in the ’80s and ’90s,” said Nick Stewart, CEO, Nick Stewart & Associates. NS&A is the London-based marketing and management consultancy working with Murphy and Universal Music on the INXS catalogue.
