UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA UNVEILS NEW A&R TEAM STRATEGY

~ New UMC Artist Facebook Page Launched ~

Toronto, Ontario, March 21, 2011 - Universal Music Canada (UMC), the country’s leading music company today announced the promotion of Mark Spicoluk who will lead UMC’s newly expanded A&R Department. The announcement was made by Randy Lennox, President and CEO, UMC.

Mark Spicoluk, a musician initially -- having played bass with Avril Lavigne, Sum 41 and Closet Monster -- joined UMC in 2006 from Underground Operations, the independent label and Management Company he founded. Mark has overseen and developed the careers of Lights, Stereos, Protest the Hero and Abandon All Ships.

Randy Lennox commented: “Mark is a leading music man and I’m delighted to announce his promotion to the top A&R job in the nation. His track record of developing and nurturing our artists speaks for itself and Mark is the person to help lead our company’s domestic repertoire into the future.”

In his new role, Spicoluk will head a vibrant team of A&R experts that will have eyes and ears across the country. UMC has also launched a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/umctalentscouts) to allow artists from across Canada to securely submit their music and connect directly to Spicoluk and his new team.

Joining the revamped department will be multi-platinum, Juno Award winning and Grammy nominated producer Gavin Brown (Three Days Grace, Metric, Sarah Harmer and Billy Talent). Also joining the team is recent Grammy Award winner for his work with Eminem, singer-songwriter, producer and former Bass Is Base vocalist/bass player, Chin Injeti. Both Brown and Injeti will report directly to Spicoluk.

Becoming Director, A&R / Lifestyle Department will be Ivan Evidente, formerly the Manager, National Lifestyle Marketing. Susan Brearton has been promoted to Director, A&R Administration. Now reporting to Susan will be Susan Michalek and Simon Paul in our Art Department. Dan Hand, formally of Underground Operations moves into the role of A&R Representative.

Don Kitchen has been promoted to Manager, A&R/Artist Rights where he will oversee all of Universal Music Canada’s Artist Ancillary Rights and will now report directly to Mark Spicoluk. Jasmine Spence joins us from Metalworks as the A&R assistant, replacing Shelley Charron-Bella who joins Shawn Marino, Vice President of Publishing as Publishing Assistant.

Paul Jessop, Vice President of National Promotion continues his Quebec A&R duties for UMC.
