JAY GILBERT PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT, NEW MEDIA/ONLINE MARKETING FOR UNIVERSAL MUSIC ENTERPRISES
LOS ANGELES, CA July 5, 2006 – Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), a division of Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, has promoted Jay Gilbert to Vice President, New Media and Online Marketing. The announcement was made today by Mike Davis, Executive Vice President & General Manager, UMe. Both Davis and Gilbert are based in UMG’s Santa Monica office.
In his new role, Gilbert will be responsible for all new media and online activities for UMe including online digital sales, UMe websites, new technologies and new formats. He will also create and manage all internet based communications and strategies including digital download sales for music and video, as well as all mobile sales such as mastertones, ringbacks, video ringers and wallpapers.
Most recently, Gilbert served as Senior Director of New Media and Online Marketing for UMe, where he launched UMe Digital, a revolutionary new record label available exclusively via commercial download services. Artists released on the UMe label include Wild Colonials, John Wetton and Geoffrey Downes (both from the group Asia) and Jeff Watson (of Night Ranger).
During his 16 years at UMG, Gilbert has worked in a number of varied areas including UMG’s eLabs division, Universal Music Logistics and Universal Music Group Distribution. Prior to Universal, Gilbert held a number of key senior positions for Sony Music and Sanctuary Records.
