UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP PROMOTES SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND EMPLOYMENT COUNSEL FOR NORTH AMERICA, SAHELI DATTA, TO HEAD OF GLOBAL COMPLIANCE
SANTA MONICA, CA, January 27, 2014 – Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, today announced the promotion of Saheli Datta, who will be adding the title of Head of Global Compliance to her current responsibilities as Senior Vice President and Employment Counsel for North America. In her new capacity as Head of Global Compliance, she will report to the company’s Compliance Committee, which is chaired by Executive Vice President and CFO Boyd Muir. Ms. Datta will be responsible for the worldwide implementation of the company’s Code of Conduct, as well as overseeing the Ethics and Compliance program throughout UMG’s operating companies in more than 60 countries. In her capacity as SVP and Employment Counsel, North America, Ms. Datta will continue to report to Jeffrey Harleston, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs for North America.
In making the announcement, Mr. Muir said, “Today’s announcement reflects both the high priority that UMG places on its compliance obligations and the high regard we have for Saheli and her work. Saheli is an excellent lawyer who has deep experience working on compliance matters for UMG, and we’re pleased that she will be leading our compliance initiatives on a global basis.”
Since 2006, Ms. Datta had overseen all UMG legal matters related to employees, including employee relations and employment contracts, as well as compliance matters for all of the company’s divisions in the United States, Canada and Mexico – and working closely with Universal Music Group Distribution, Universal Music Publishing Group and all of the company’s recording labels. She joined the company in 2000 as Senior Director and rose to VP in 2006. In 2011, she was promoted to Senior Vice President. Prior to joining UMG, Ms. Datta served as employment counsel in the law firm of Morrison & Foerster.
