STEVE GAWLEY APPOINTED SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, BUSINESS & LEGAL AFFAIRS, ISLAND DEF JAM MUSIC GROUP

(August 2, 2004 – New York, NY) Steve Gawley has been appointed Senior Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs, Island Def Jam Music Group, it was announced today by Antonio “L.A.” Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group.

In his new post, Mr. Gawley will serve as the chief legal officer for the company, focusing on the closing of all deals involving new and existing artists, production agreements, clearance issues and other matters. In carrying out these duties, Mr. Gawley will play a major role in establishing the Business and Legal Affairs Department as an aggressive and efficient operation, responsive to the needs of artists and management. Mr. Gawley, who is based in New York, will report directly to Mr. Reid.

“Working with Steve for more than four years has led me to appreciate the expertise in all fields of law that he brings to this crucial position,” said Mr. Reid. “I intend for the senior management team at IDJ to be the finest in the industry, and Steve is a worthy addition to the roster.”

Mr. Gawley comes to IDJ from Arista Records, where he was Senior Vice President, Legal & Business Affairs since 2000. Prior to that, he spent five years at BMG Entertain­ment, starting in 1995 as Associate Director, Legal & Business Affairs. He went on to a number of positions of increasing responsibility including Director, Legal & Business Affairs, North America in 1996; Senior Director in 1997; Vice President in the North American Group in 1998; and Vice President, Worldwide Legal & Business Affairs in 1999.

Mr. Gawley began his career in 1990, as an associate at the New York law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft. He attended SUNY Albany where he earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He was graduated from Harvard Law School in 1990, with the degree of Juris Doctor. Mr. Gawley is a member of the bar of New York State.
