The astounding Latin Grammy success of Juanes continued last night as the Colombian guitarist-singer-songwriter swept the 2003 edition of the awards by capturing the Latin Grammy in all five categories for which he was nominated. This feat not only marks a record for the most Latin Grammy Awards captured in a single year, but also raises Juanes’ career Latin Grammy tally to an astounding nine awards for just two albums.
Sporting an overflowing armload of golden gramophones by the night’s end, Juanes won the awards for: “Album of the Year” – “Record of the Year” – “Song of the Year” – “Best Rock Solo Album” & “Best Rock Song”. Juanes’ success on the evening was not just limited to the award podium, as he backed up the accolades with an electrifying duet performance with The Black Eyed Peas. The medley of Juanes’ next single “La Paga” and The Black Eyed Peas' “Latin Girls” was an electrifying fusion of Latin Rock & alternative Hip-hop that brought the entire arena to its feet.
This latest Latin Grammy triumph marks yet another record-breaking accomplishment for Juanes’ landmark album Un Dia Normal (Surco-Universal) which is the year’s #1 selling Latin album.
