JACKY CHEUNG EXTENDS LONG RELATIONSHIP WITH UNIVERSAL MUSIC
HONG KONG, May 27, 2003 – Top Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung Hok-yau has extended his highly successful long-term relationship with Universal Music with a contract for another three albums under Universal Music’s What’s Music label, announced Harry Hui, President of Universal Music Southeast Asia.
The renewed ties continue a long-term relationship between Cheung and Universal Music that began when the singer released his debut album "Smile Again" on the PolyGram label in 1985. Since then Cheung has released more than 50 albums, including his English language debut "Touch Of Love" in December 2000.
Today, Cheung remains one of the bestselling singers of all time in Asia, with sales of more than 25 million albums to his name. He was also the first Hong Kong singer to be named Bestselling Asian Artist in the World at the World Music Awards in Monaco in 1995 and 1996. Cheung also successfully staged the first original Canto-pop musical "Snow.Wolf. Lake" in 1996.
"We are very proud to continue our association with Jacky, who is a top brand in the business. For my colleagues and I, this is the biggest encouragement we can have to set our targets in creativity and resourcefulness higher than ever before," said Sunny Chang, Managing Director of Universal Music (Taiwan).
Harry Hui said: "Jacky’s continued vote of confidence in Universal Music is something we value greatly. Jacky and Universal have had a strong alliance in the past and I’m looking forward to an even more promising future ahead as we move into more exciting and challenging times."
