Wale Collaborates With Lady GaGa
It seems every time we turn around another hip-hop artist surprises us with an unexpected collaboration with artists who are anything but rappers. Kanye West did it with a sampling of Daft Punk’s song “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” to make his hit single “Stronger,” and Jay-Z did it with Linkin Park in his hit song “Encore;” even Lil Wayne is coming out with a rap/rock album that will be coming out later this month called Rebirth.
While this type of collaboration has produced much controversy around within the rap community, it does not look like these type of projects will be going away anytime soon. In fact, up and coming hip-hop artist Wale will be testing the waters with his as of yet untitled major debut album with cameos of such pop and alternative rock sensations as Lady GaGa and TV On The Radio.
Wale is quoted as having said in regard to his upcoming album:
“I can't tell you all [the details]. We got some good stuff. You gonna hear… It feels like, if Fela Kuti was around and met Just Blaze and they had a conversation and woke up at 4 a.m., called each other simultaneously and said, 'Let's go to the studio, I have an idea.' One [song] specifically — called 'Triumph' — that's how it sounds. It's about breaking the barriers of music. TV on the Radio is ... if you know, you know."
Wale continued: "It ain't like they're highly publicized, Grammy-winning, 10 million-sold rock stars ... but this is some freaky, freaked-out music. And I wanted to be one of the first hip-hop acts to really go in-depth and use them."
But Wale understands that he will not be getting the full backing of the hip-hop community, who he says are only stubborn and will eventually come around.
"There's still a stubbornness, man. There's a lot of people who don't like me, don't understand. But then again, there's a lot that do. It's just gonna take some time," he said. "We're not gonna win everybody over right now. And there's a lot of people who only want to f--- with [DJ] Premier beats and the Black Milks — two very dope producers, by the way — but they're stubborn, you know?”
