Universal Republic Signs Atlanta based group, Rehab

NEW YORK--Whoever thought ‘sittin’ at a bar’ could cause so much commotion?

Universal Republic Records has signed the Atlanta mash-up group Rehab, featuring co-founder and frontman Danny Boone, the mastermind behind the non-traditional hit, “Sittin’ At A Bar.” Universal Republic is releasing the artist endorsed version of the song to radio nationwide this week.

Originally signed to Epic Records in 1999, the group was later dropped. Boone revamped the group in 2005 with a new and improved lineup. Never happy with the fate and the sound of the original version of “Sittin’ At A Bar” from their debut release, in 2006 Rehab re-recorded the song. The retooled version has emerged to become the #1 Jukebox record in the country.

Says Danny: “We always thought “Sittin’ At A Bar” was a hit song. But our old label didn’t agree and was not interested in pushing it. So we decided to re-record it with better sounds and give it to Universal Republic because they believed in us. It’s truly a unique situation when a band has to cover their own song to make it work.”

Universal Republic Records will be releasing the band’s 2005 independent release, Graffiti The World later this spring with 3 additional never-before-heard tracks.
