The Roots Take On 'Late Night'
Grammy-award winning band The Roots, have a lot in store for the upcoming months. In addition to recording a new album on the prominent Def Jam label, the band is preparing for a more enduring project that will be bringing their name closer to the mainstream. Starting March 2, The Roots will be taking its position as the official house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, scheduled to air weeknights on NBC at 11 pm. Jimmy Fallon is excited to replace Conan O’Brien’s long-time position as host of the show, as O’Brein will be moving up the primetime ladder to fill Jay Leno’s seat on The Tonight Show this upcoming Monday. In a press conference on Feburary 24, drummer, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, has been reported as saying that the band is looking forward to tackling this new challenge and that this transformation will only prove the group to be all the more capable. The Roots have been dedicating long hours in preparation for their part on the show. The band will be playing songs ranging in genres from soul to rock as well as performing their accustomed mix of hip-hop and R&B. Fans of The Roots can rest assured this new career move does not mark the end of The Roots dedicated touring history (which marks 17 years to date). The group will continue playing weekend shows and will even be gearing up for a summer tour in addition to playing spots in various US music festivals.
Make sure to tune in to next Monday, March 2nd to check out The Roots in action.
