Stocking Stuffers from Universal Music
With another holiday season approaching, Universal Music artists The Killers, Colbie Caillat and Sugarland prepare to release tracks for the holidays that are sure to receive more than their fair share of air time, while finding their way on to many iPod playlists. In addition to new releases, many of Universal Music Group’s artists have dates set for special live holiday performances.
Island Def Jam Record’s artist, The Killers, will be all over the radio and Internet this season with “Don’t Shoot Me Santa,” their second Christmas single. Similar to last year’s “A Great Big Sled”, the single will turn (RED) with 100% of the proceeds going to the Global Fund (www.theglobalfund.org). “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” was released for digital download yesterday (November 27th). On December 1st (Saturday) the video will debut as part of RED’s World Aids Day activities. Next Tuesday, December 4th, the “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” single package (including audio track and video) arrives in stores.
RED, created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, is a brand designed to engage business and consumer power in the fight against AIDS in Africa. RED works with the world’s biggest brands to make unique RED-branded products and direct up to 50% of their gross profits to the Global Fund to invest in African AIDS programs, with a focus on the health of women and children.
Universal Motown Records Group’s Colbie Caillat is set to debut her release of holiday aimed single, “Mistletoe”, which made it to all retailers yesterday (November 27th). Previously, Colbie’s debut album Coco reached #1 on the iTunes charts within hours of release. Her debut single “Bubbly” has enjoyed wide-spread success on the charts.
Colbie has a series of Christmas Show performances scheduled for December. She will be doing both the KKRZ Christmas Show in Portland, Oregon on 12/3 as well as the KBKS Christmas Show in Seattle Washington on 12/4. On 12/12, Colbie will headline the annual Christmas in Washington Benefit Show which is slated to air on TNT.
On the country music front, Universal Music Nashville’s Sugarland has emerged as one of the hottest contemporary music acts in the country. With a solid debut album, and now a terrific sophomore release, coupled with very positive reviews of their live performances, it seems the sky is the limit for Sugarland. A holiday re-release of Enjoy The Ride, Sugarland’s second album, is currently being exclusively sold at Wal-Mart and includes a bonus CD featuring 6 holiday classics and a Sugarland original song "Little Wood Guitar."
Universal Republic band Godsmack will release their widely anticipated Greatest Hits album, Good Times Bad Times....Ten Years of Godsmack on December 4. The 16-track collection is loaded with career defining milestones and seminal Godsmack classics. Among the groundbreaking songs included are the band's clarion call "Whatever," their breakthrough #1 rock mainstream smash "Awake," "I Stand Alone" (2002's most played rock radio song of the year), "Speak," (the #1 rock cut from their 2006 album Godsmack IV), and a rare, bristling Godsmack cover of Led Zeppelin's classic 1969 debut single "Good Times, Bad Times."
Geffen Records artist Marry J. Blige’s new album, Growing Pains hits stores December 18th and is currently available for pre-order. With the pre-order, you will get Mary's first single "Just Fine" now. On December 18th when the album comes out you will receive the Digital Booklet and the bonus track "Mirror" featuring Eve.
