Portishead Record Radio Session for Release
On March 19th, Portishead recorded a live radio session in Berlin at Funkhaus.
Funkhaus is a legendary 1950s building complex situated right on the eastern bank of the Spree designed in 1951 by the architect Franz Ehrlich.
Portishead recorded eight songs which were broadcast by Radio Eins and the recording will be released ahead of their tour which begins March 26th.
The event was well attended by the press with representation from Observer Music Monthly, The Telegraph, GQ, NME, The Guardian, Word Magazine, Guardian Unlimited and YouTube. Also from the media were XFM, Later with Jools Holland, Bebo, and Yahoo!.
Nick Gatfield, President of Island Records Group UK, and Frank Briegmann, MD UM Germany were also at the live recording.
Portishead are due to release their hugely anticipated new album, Third, on April 28th internationally (29th in the US) through Island Records. Third is the band’s fourth album in total and first since 1998’s Roseland NYC live. The Bristol based trio, who will be touring the UK and Europe in March and April, released their new single “Machine Gun” digitally at 7:30pm GMT on March 18th via their website and Island Tunes' website. The single then became available from all other digital partners, while a 12” vinyl version will be released on April 14th.
In addition Portishead have made their special limited edition box set available to exclusively pre-order from their website. The Box Set, strictly limited to 10,000 copies worldwide, will include double vinyl album, a P-shaped 1GB USB, an etched 12” vinyl of "Machine Gun", and a limited edition print from Nick Uff. The USB features the album, and the following films: Ade’s House, Machine Gun, The Rip live @ Mr Wolfe’s, We Carry On and The Truly Spectacular Universal Conference Film.
Owners of the USB stick will also receive three additional, and exclusive, bespoke content items during the year.
