M.I.A. has been honoured with an Academy Award nomination for her work on the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack.
Oscar nominations were announced on Thursday, and "O Saya," which M.I.A. wrote with Slumdog Millionaire score composer A.R. Rahman, is nominated for Best Original Song. It's up against Rahman's "Jai Ho" and Peter Gabriel's "Down To Earth" from Wall-E.
As well as winning the Golden Globe for Best Original Score, with A.R. Rahman, M.I.A. has also been nominated for two Grammy Awards. She's pregnant and, in a Dec. 5 MySpace blog entry, she wrote that her baby is due the same day as the awards ceremony.
"either way i figured ill win," she wrote. "but OMG if i get it, i will never diss the Grammys evr again!"
Of her Oscar nomination for Best Original Song, M.I.A. says “This is a great honor. Thank you to all the people who are supporting us and the making of a real story of a slumdog millionaire. Maybe I can afford to book Dave Chappelle at the baby shower now. Thank you again; My mum wants everyone to know what wonderful news this is for her.”
