Lil Wayne Evolves as an Artist on Rebirth
For those Weezy fans who were hoping to be listening to his upcoming album Rebirth by now, the album’s release date has been moved from early April to June 23rd. And as for the Rock influence that everyone has been talking about – the album’s producers, Cool and Dre, insist that despite some tracks being rockish Lil Wayne has stayed true to the style which fans have simply become enamored with.
In an interview with MTV, Dre was quoted as having described Weezy’s next installment as follows:
“There’s some rock records on there, but there’s also some records where he’s rapping. It’s a Lil Wayne album. It’s what you expect from Lil Wayne, where he’s at creatively.”
Dre then went on to compare Lil Wayne’s evolution as an artist to that heard by Outkast’s André 3000.
“It’s almost like where OutKast was when they made Aquemin. It’s still a rap album, but was it really a rap album compared to all the other rap albums at that time? André Benjamin was evolving artistically to where he’s at now — Wayne is doing the same thing, and he’s not afraid to show you his growth.”
If Weezy’s past success is any indicator, then his artistic evolution is sure to bring something new and special to the music scene. At least Dre promises that “Rebirth is going to be another classic album.”
