Hear The New JUANES Single “Odio Por Amor"
Word of new music from JUANES always causes excitement at radio across the world, as singles from the twelve-time LATIN GRAMMY winner tend to ascend the chart quickly and endure for months (“Me Enamora”- the first single from the multi-platinum album La Vida… Es Un Ratico spent twenty weeks/five months at #1). This morning, Universal Music has distributed the brand new JUANES song “Odio por Amor” (Hate for Love) to radio throughout the world, and there is no doubt it will garner fast attention.

Recorded in August and set for inclusion in a planned special/expanded edition release of La Vida… Es Un Ratico in November, “Odio por Amor” is an instantly classic Juanes anthem in the vein of A Dios Le Pido. But whereas Juanes’ worldwide breakthrough song was one individual’s prayer to God for love and protection in dangerous times, “Odio por Amor” finds Latin music’s most socially progressive artist energized by the rising tide of millions of motivated individuals he has encountered and giving them voice in a demand for social change and universal peace.
With two protagonists (loved ones–nations–hemispheres?) that are letting individual drive/ambition cloud their appreciation for the strength of love and freedom, “Odio por Amor” sees Juanes so adamant that the time has finally come for historic change, that he demands action for the first time in both Spanish and English – with the continued simple but engaging chorus of “Es tiempo de cambiar (It's time to change).”
"Odio Por Amor" (Hate for Love) emerges from the natural need to express an absolute dislike of our own behavior, a rethinking of our own values and needs. It was written while touring Spain in 2008 and I didn't want to wait two years to release it in a new album. La vida is about timing.
Currently on tour in Russia and Scandinavia, look for Juanes to bring the highly acclaimed La Vida tour back to Latin America for extensive dates throughout the fall.
