Erykah Badu Is Back With Two-Part Release, New AmErykah
Four-time Grammy-winning artist Erykah Badu returns with her first new album after a 5 year hiatus.
The two-part record New AmErykah will be released in separate installments with the first disc, 4th World War, slated for an international release Feb 25th, and Feb 26th in the US.
While still affirming her soul, jazz and hip-hop roots, New AmErykah pushes the envelope even further than past endeavors, paying homage to her organic hip-hop sensibilities while crafting a vision of contemporary R&B.
The first single, “Honey”, has already been soaring on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the US, while the video, a creative homage to classic soul records, has received heavy rotation on MTV, VH-1 and BET.
The album boasts collaborations with the best of hip-hop and R&B including Grammy - winning producer 9th Wonder, as well as Madlib, Mike Chavarria, Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson, R&B singer Bilal, and Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López.
After a decade-long, multi-platinum career, Badu is confident that her fanbase has remained intact, despite her lengthy break from the studio since her last release Worldwide Underground. "I don't worry about that," she said. "I think if people like music, then they like music."
Universal Motown plans to market New AmErykah to coffee shops, as well as release a live album exclusively via Starbucks later in 2008, in hopes of expanding Badu’s niche fanbase.
The project, which will also be produced in USB stick format, will include exclusive videos and web material for download, with new content available on the 26th of each month in the US.
