Amy Receives Platinum Award During European Tour
Island Records UK songstress, Amy Winehouse (Universal Republic in the US) was presented with a platinum award after a performance in Zurich, Switzerland October 25th. Representatives from UM Switzerland were pleased to hand over the award for 30,000+ sales for her current album Back To Black.
Amy has just completed the main European leg of her tour performing in Germany, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, France, Italy and Belgium. She embarks on her UK tour in November.
Her album Back To Black debuted at No.1 in the UK and has remained a fixture of the Billboard Top Albums charts in the US since its release on March 13th. The hottest single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart most of the summer was “Rehab” which scorched its way up the top ten, nailing the No. 1 spot on the Billboard R&B singles chart.
Back To Black has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide, making it one of the most successful albums of the year. Among Amy’s many awards so far this year are the coveted Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist, a Best Jazz Crossover album honor at the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Awards, an Ivor Novello Award (she won her first in 2003), and most recently a MOBO Award (Music Of Black Origin), winning Best UK Female Artist.
Due to US music fans’ roaring welcome of Back To Black, which has gone platinum, her US label Universal Republic Records have announced the nationwide release of her widely heralded UK debut, Frank, scheduled to hit record stores and the digital domain on November 20, 2007.
Released in England in 2003, Frank was hailed by British pop critics as a stunning introduction to Winehouse’s soulful and starkly original sound, with leading UK newspaper The Guardian citing her as a “a colossal vocal talent.”
American music audiences who were introduced to Winehouse via the bluesy and brazen Back To Black will appreciate Frank’s gliding jazz and R&B leanings. Produced by hip-hop helmsman Salaam Remi (who also produced five tracks on Back To Black), the disc was nominated for two BRIT awards, as well as a Mercury Music Prize.
Winehouse is surrounding the American release of her Frank CD with a burst of activity. She will be making her much anticipated return to the US with a coveted slot on NBC's Saturday Night Live (SNL) , airing on November 10. In addition to SNL, she will perform at the 2007 mtvU Woodie Awards in New York City on November 8 (scheduled to air on US MTV's 24-hour college network on November 15) with Winehouse listed among a handful of breakthrough nominees for "Woodie Of The Year.”
The singer will be offering home entertainment fans a unique glimpse of her unvarnished live show with the release of a special live DVD, I Told You I Was Trouble, which will hit stores worldwide on November 12/13. This unique live DVD set should satisfy US music fans’ desire to see Winehouse perform songs from both Back To Black and Frank until she hits US stages in January to start her 2008 US tour.
