Eminem To Perform At MTV Movie Awards & Judge Vibe Verses
The 2009 MTV Movie Awards promises to be an event that people will not want to miss! With at least two members of the Universal Music family participating in the night’s events, I know that we at Universal will be watching.
Although MTV has decided to keep their list of musical performers quiet, they have announced one of the artists that will be among the night’s entertainment – Hip-Hop superstar Eminem. The 2009 MTV Movie Awards will be taking place live at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California, on Sunday, May 31st at 9 PM, and will be hosted by The Lonely Island front man – Andy Samberg.
With Eminem’s highly anticipated new album, Relapse, to hit store shelves on May 19th, his performance will most likely include some of his classic fan favorites as well as some of his latest material (like the single “We Made You,” which premiered on MTV last week). Among past Universal artist’s to take part in the ceremony include the Pussycat Dolls, who performed at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.
Eminem will be keeping himself busy by also involving himself with the Vibe magazine rap contest. Vibe magazine wants people to enter into the Vibe Verses Presents No. 1 Stan competition in honor of the upcoming “Real Rap” issue coming out on May 19th. Competitors will upload a 60 second video clip featuring you freestyling over the instrumentals from Eminem’s classic tune “Stan,” just click here to find out how to get started!
As would only be appropriate, Eminem himself will be getting the fresh rhymes to look over and judge, from those he will only be choosing two finalists to continue onto the next round.
If you want to submit your freestyle, be sure to start getting your video together because submissions are due by April 21st.
In a press release announcing the competition Eminem is quoted as having said:
“Battling is the way I came up, so it's gonna be interesting to watch a rap battle unfold online… Vibe is taking it out of the clubs and street corners and putting it on the Net. MCs better bring it, because I'm watching."
